Local news gets interesting. Meet my new hero! (.wmv file-- only a few seconds long but NSFW.) I'd elaborate, but I don't want to wreck it.

a month or so old now, and someone added the farting sound.
posted by quonsar at 6:42 AM on May 10, 2004

That's hilarious.

Not to be too nitpicky, but I'm not sure I buy the fart noise. Those mikes don't pick up a lot of ambient sound--it's hard to believe someone racing by could come through crystal clear like that. It really sounds like someone laid down a sound effect on the clip, after the fact.

Whatever, though. It's funny enough without the fart noise, so thanks.

[Whoops--I guess quonsar posted a definitive answer while I was posting my question.]

I like how she "jumps" slightly.

Oh yeah, and what a hardass too.

She looked thoroughly disgusted and unamused. Not even a hint of a smile.

That's because she's never seen a penis before. She's in an "I saw something icky" clinic in Switzerland now. We wish her speedy recovery.

ahhhh... that's funny.

A sad byproduct of the useless need to be "live" at 11:15 PM, ten hours after the news actually happens. Needless to say, that lady needs to work on her journalistic composure.

Hah! That was funnier than the video!

Does anyone have a link to the unaltered clip?

Crashed Windows Media Player, Real One Player, and my OS (twice).
My sides are aching. :(

I agree with PV. We ought to set up a PayPal account and bankroll that dude's trip across America (and subsequent bailing out of jail) to teach local affiliates that just because you have a live truck doesn't mean you should always use it.

I've got the unaltered clip, q, and me ... I still find non-farting streakers amusing. Unlike kids today, apparently, who need farts. Hee hee.

yah, i was responding to Dasein but forgot to italicize the quote!

Local news stations are pretty damned annoying. We have one that does live remotes from JUST OUTSIDE THE STUDIO. Seriously. They gear up the satellite truck outside the studio building so the talking head/doughboy can talk with a vaid reporter about a story that actually happened miles away and hours before. They try to angle the shot so it's not bloody obvious, but anyone who's driven down that road (and it's one of the city's main thoroughfares) can recognize it.

I can only hope something like this happens to them.

Mayor Curley, GREAT TITLE!

Famous Mortimer would be proud.

tittergrrl, I'm shocked. I didn't expect anyone to catch it. I also considered "Coco Robbins Returns" and "I Ain't Gonna Spend My Life Stinking of Pepper!"

Streakers are just funny, even without the added sound effects...but the newscaster's response is priceless. See, the correct answer is "Well, local barometers suggest a cool front. Over to you Bob."

We had something similar happen here, where some newslady was in the Cowboy's locker room and one of the boys just wandered by, naked as the day god made him. The oblivious news caster didn't even notice, which made it much funnier in my opinion. (Cause I mean really, it was a newsworthy commando shot...more interesting than anything else the Cowboys have done lately...)

That's a Paula Poundstone joke made famous during her slot on HBO's Women of the Night.

/Just giving it proper credit

Yes, the fart noise is fake, and the video is something like a year old. The clip is dear to my heart, as it takes place on campus of WWU, my alma mater *sniff*. Anyway, I have a local copy of the clip sans additions somewhere, should someone's quest for truth demand it.

I gotta agree with the comments about the senseless use of live on-the-scene reporting. I sometimes watch the local news in the morning. The newscaster mentions some important city council meeting that will take place this evening, "And we had so-and-so live outside the city council chamber to tell you more about it." The hapless reporter, at 5:30 a.m., is only 13.5 hours early for the meeting. Not only that, but the poor reporter does his/her 1 minute segment, answers further "questions" from the newscaster (Just to prove it's live, I guess), waits 30 minutes in the dark and does it again.

Hmm, Mayor Curley it looks like the guy in the clip is actually about to wreck it. Judging by the location in Washington he's got to run a few hundred kilometers northwest to Vancouver. I hope he's got his passport. *8^)
