Salam Pax gets a movie deal. The Baghdad Blogger has previously taken his posts to the book format and a company has just bought the rights to make a movie out of it. I can't say there are many blogs that would ever work as a movie, but this is certainly a new milestone for blogging.

a) Blogging certainly is getting more trendy every day. Will there be a part in the movie for Paris Hilton's dog?
b) I can't say there are many blogs that would ever work as a movie

I like Salam, but seriously:
Iraqi guy gets blog, war erupts, nobody knows who he is (or whether he is a liar or not, he may be a spy).
then "major operations" (heh) end, and he writes a book about blogging in Baghdad.
where's the third act? posted by matteo at 1:57 PM on May 13, 2004
matteo - It's not just, exactly, but why not think of it this way ? - it's not unjust either, and by the time The NeoCons are done with Iraq, Salam Pax's Hollywood and book deal salaries will amount to about 10% of the Iraqi GNP.
He'll be a pillar of the economic system with lots of mouths to feed. posted by troutfishing at 2:27 PM on May 13, 2004
I'm not sure I do like Salam anymore, frankly. Did you see that video thing he did awhile back, where he was doing the whole Bob Dylan cue cards spiel?! It felt more like The Real World - Baghdad.
Add to that the fact that he started censoring his posts when Raed said bad things about the Coalition. Frankly, he deserved to get dumped online.
... that and his journal isn't interesting anymore -- the ultimate sin for a weblogger. Sounds to me like he spends time either in the editing room, in foriegn countries (either living it up in nightclubs or plugging his book), or poolside in the Green Zone. Anywhere, really, except amongst his countrymen.
I'm sure if things really go to hell in Iraq, he's already got a seat on the chopper reserved for him. posted by insomnia_lj at 2:30 PM on May 13, 2004
Maybe the starring role in "Good Morning Baghdad, Hello World !" will tempt Robin Williams out of semi-retirement. posted by troutfishing at 2:30 PM on May 13, 2004
Could be very interesting. I guess the first 'blog movie' would of been the documentary Home Page about Justin Hall. posted by bobo123 at 2:31 PM on May 13, 2004
So who's gonna play John Burns in the towel? I mean, come on, that's gotta be one of the highlights. posted by soyjoy at 2:39 PM on May 13, 2004
Yeah and it's too bad Salam Pax hasn't been updating much, though Raed in the Middle has been very entertaining lately. Strange that there isn't a link to it on Salam's page. posted by bobo123 at 2:46 PM on May 13, 2004
