it was more fun when they sang in each countries language, a good refrain would stick and you'd be singing stuff you hadn't a clue what it really meant. Good times.

hey, thanks for posting this. being a norwegian living in the US, i miss the insanity of this kitchy contest. this clip even included the norwegian performer (who sucked horribly)! i must agree with dabitch though, it was better when they had to sing in their own language. i still remember the israeli song with two dressed up dudes who sang something like "oompa hulle hulle hulle, oompa hulle hulle hulle, ompaah HULLEH! HULLEH! OMPAAPAAA!!!" good times, indeed.

Eurovision is nice. It lets bands that appear to be slightly serious clarify implicitly that they're novelty acts.

Jonathan Ross said to Radiohead last year that they should enter Eurovision with a 3-minute pop song, and they said they'd work on it, and when they were on more recently they apologized for not getting around to it <g>

I don't know why the UK doesn't throw some serious pop muscle at Eurovision. Every year we seem to end up with some pop-idol wannabees and a rubbish score.
OK. The rubbish score is understandable. You don't invade Iraq, and hope to win the Eurovision song contest, but come on. Lets release songs we can be proud of. I was thinking Busted, but Radiohead would be damn fine.

Also; anyone notice how long it took Wogan to mention the fact that Ireland wasn't doing so well. I think he's had his Irish heritage surgically removed or something. Weird.

*sings* oompa hulle hulle hulle, oompa hulle hulle hulle!

I read that the messed up the voting on the first night and everyone showed "null points" for a wee while there. The mirror reckons it's a load of b...

Another Norwegian living in the US here (edlundart, we should meet up sometime). I can't believe Norway came in dead last AGAIN. At least there's the linguistic upside - every Norwegian knows how to say 'Norway - zero points' in at least 10 languages... Thanks, dabitch et al, for giving us our only points of the night!

Oh, and a big thanks to all of those Balkan states who gave us points, but no.. that's not going to make Tony change his mind on the benefits thing ;-)
