Digital data in the form of (i) still image, (ii) text, (iii) motion pictures and (iv) sound have all been modified at the micro/nanoscale.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? There's no such thing as 'nanoscale' for digital data.* It appears to be a legitimate university, so it's probably not a hoax, but as randomblondeboy says, they're just messing about with CDs and pretending it's some deep scientific work. *Nanoscale refers to something in the nanometre size range. I suppose you could have a nanobit to describe something containing 10^-9 bits of entropy, but that's not what they're talking about here.

This just makes no sense at all--I was willing to suspend some measure of disbelief with the idea that they were doing very early research on the basic feasibility of the premise, and just got over-enthusiastic in describing it as an actual technology, but then he goes and actually puts it in the CD player! Once you spend time on it, it really looks like some guy got baked, notice he had let mold grow on his CDs, and got carried away in spinning that out into some new "technology".
