Wow. And there's more!

The photos in the posted link honestly don't seem that great to me, but that place certainly is fascinating. The photos *do* give me enough to imagine what it would be like to be there, though.

Wonderful, thanks, keswick. Inspired me to go looking, and I found this, this, and this.

Okay, um, sorry about my second link. I didn't realize that I had discovered the worst user interface known to man. Here's a nicer one with some good photos to make up for it.

On preview: How could there be so many websites about this, many with really nice images, yet it took this long to be posted to Mefi?

Another abandoned city is this place on Cyprus called Famagusta, abandoned since Turkey took it back.

here is a page about it.

Heh. Amberglow, like this? (FWIW, reviews say it's nowhere near as good as the original.)

Beautiful. I've been interested in this since I stumbled into a site full of ruin pictures one night. It was all in Japanese, like a snuff movie site for architecture, so I couldn't understand anything of it, but the pictures said enough. Then I learned that there was a name for this kind of thing and I've got the impression that the phenomenon of exploring urban ruins is big in Japan (example: ruin-japan.com) – is this true? I perceive Japan as a very densely populated island, and it's hard to imagine that they have enough space to leave a lot of housing and industries unused. Does anyone here know more about Japanese urban exploration?

More here and here. William Gibson mentions him in Idoru.
