I saw Thisisamagazine a number of months ago, and was pretty interested in it.... The one by Ross Featherstone was pretty impressive, and interesting... But the pinups/showgirls was was unbelievable. These kind of projects have so much potential to make online magazings much more interesting, and interactive.

I think this is terrible, terrible UI. Novelty factor? Sure. But what a pain in the ass. A half-screen click and drag (slightly better on jazon's link, but still a pain) is not a fun interruption to my browsing.

I have to agree with rafter. Initially, it's nifty to look at. But it got irritating quickly (especially jazon's link --- the pages kept flipping back).

If they just went the extra mile and made it possible to double-click to make it automatic, then it would be amazingly good.

DesignForTheSakeOfDesign I don't see why the FPP link had to use this particular UI. The second link given, I think I see what they're getting at -- a simulation of what it was like to listen to records while viewing porn in the early 1900's. BUT the pages were HARDER to turn in that one. Linking to these sites probably cost the collective world economy $200,000 US in carpal tunnel related damage.

Isn't this like building a steam-powered horse out of cast iron and whirlygigs, because you can't stand those dang newfangled automobiles? not really. it's more like making an analog recording and then uploading it to a Web site. i see this as an album of 2D visual content. nothing wrong with that, and no trees were harmed in the making (just ignore the electrical pollution, etc.) i liked them all mostly, particularly thisisamagazine. that could be b/c you could just click, rather than click and drag. as for the UI, rather than double clicking, you should be able to hold down the mouse for a specific amount of time for each page. that way you could turn as many pages forward or backward as you like it. the biggest frustration was clicking back for every page. there should also be hotkeys for forward or back that function in the same manner. you'd have to tweak the algorithm to figure out an optimal time variable, but it's probably doable in Flash.
