It is too cloudy today, as amberglow has noted, but I've caught this in the past. It's one of the most magical times to be in New York. I caught the sunrise one this past year by accident while walking my obnoxiously early rising puppy. Of course I prefer the sunset version, walking toward the Hudson through the Village, and arriving at Hudson River Park for the post-sunset wonder that is the sky over New Jersey.

Not to interupt the Star Trek convention, but... </cheap> My daughter was born in Manhattan on May 28, 1998. We left New York shortly afterwards. The Gotham Equinox was news to me (great name for it, silusGrok). This post is a great birthday gift for her mother and me. Thanks.

aladfar: downtown Chicago's streets are aligned with the cardinal directions, so a "Chicago equinox" corresponds with the actual equinoxes, roughly March 21 and September 22. For such a city, the streets align with both the sunrise and sunset on the same day. But for a city at an angle, you'll have different days for the "sunrise equinox" and the "sunset equinox," if you will. If the "Gotham sunset equinoxes" fall on May 28 and July 12, then "Gotham sunrise equinoxes" would be around November 28 and January 12.
