The Webcomics Examiner launched earlier this week. Finally, a well-written magazine of criticism for online comics.

i read a good chunk of this site yesterday and really dug it. they seem to be trying hard to stay smart and on-message but my only complaint would be that they used a few too many "vocab words".

the review of sexy losers was intelligent and priceless.

as well as accompanied by NSFW cartoons.

[this is a good idea]

up to now, I've generally depended on the "these are the comics I read" lists of the artists that I respect.

not-terribly-clever clay/hard-related anecdote: back when thinhline disappeared, I had absolutely no idea what had happened. eventually I heard about sexylosers ... from a totally fundamentalist christian friend. heh, wtf?!

ps clango I've said this before, but my gf is loving her 'jesus helps me trick ppl' tshirt more and more every day... been a few years, getting careworn, I may have to get her a new one.

Thanks for the clue! The site looks very promising. Now if only Dirk would bring ¡Journalista! back.

Speaking of Clay/Hard, he thinks webcomics should never be reviewed. Of course that was when the review was negative.

"Sexy Losers" is the closest comic to "mainstream" that the webcomics examiner has strayed. I read at least nine webcomics daily, I've read many, many more, and I know way, way, way too much about the whole genre, and Sexy Losers was the only comic on the site I'd ever even HEARD of - and I'm reasonably internet literate.

That has to be intentional. Fetus-X really intrigued me, but considering that you actually have to pay for a subscription to read it all, and the one panel shown in the preview didn't exactly inspire confidence, I really don't know.

hey mwhybark.....hate to be the one to say it, but dirk just gave the official notice that journalista is permanently done for. although he will be doing something similar in the print version of the journal, and there's plenty of comics bloggers picking up the slack. browse here for some good reading in the journalista vein.
