Hammers, once the pop culture for music, suddenly become popular weapons of death. Why? Anyone else find this odd?

Because they work well enough and they are easy to buy. They are occasionally used by less adept muggers for stunning victims. Whack and snatch. Box cutters are a popular weapon for street fighting for a similar reason--they can fit in a pocket and yet have a sharp blade which can draw blood instantly. They aren't especially lethal but they are frightening: spilt blood has an enormous emotional impact.

I wonder if the TSA and Homeland Security know about these weapons of mass destruction. Even as I type, I can envision legions of Al Qaeda minions plotting to destroy American freedom with these seemingly innocuous tools. When hammers are outlawed, only outlaws will have houses framed with 2x4s.
