The Louis Vuitton/Cherry Blossom cake is just SO 21st century Tokyo. I would love to know more about the couple who ordered it. My (single, female, Japanese) cubicle neighbor gave the idea a thumbs down, however.

This woman used to have a Tabasco bottle shaped cake, but it's gone now. She must have had copyright issues. Check out the Ice Chest cake, though. (It's on the UT Longhorns' page)

Happy birthday! I watched this cake competition and frankly, I thought the judges were too stodgy. Collette's cake was definitely the safe bet (and in my opinion, a pink and gold leaf nightmare), and the judges seem to punish the entrants who showed a willingness to push the form. Michelle Bommarito's was my favorite because it was just so wacky, but if I were a judge, I would have scored Stanton Ho's the highest since I thought he had the nicest combination of technique and artistry. But what the hell do I know about wedding cakes? When it comes time for the SO and me to tie the knot, we want wedding pie.

I saw the show and the cakes were truly amazing. But hardly any mention was made of how the damn things actually tasted. And isn't that really the whole point of a cake? Fondant tastes awful.

Nothing beats the spaceghost shaped cake by friend pete made me for my 18th birthday. My moms Ninja turtles made out of twinkies that adorned my 11th birthday cake was also pretty sweet.

I know some folks who used this talented woman to make their wedding cake. She makes "normal" cakes, too, but these were so absolutely cool, they had to have one. It was a huge wedding, and they did the old "sheet cake for the masses" trick, which was okay with me, because it was the best cake I've ever had.

Atom12, I'm with ya on the "Fondant tastes awful." It makes things look pretty and smooth on the outside, but it's thick and tough and not fun to eat. Stick with a classic buttercream, I say.

The food network show was pretty good. I like all those pastry contests they show and this fit the bill the same way.
