Sorry to say I thought it was lame too. Bunch of guys got a PD150 and final cut pro and ripped off some scenes from the matrix and a bunch of hong kong films (though that pretty much sums up Tarantino). Reminds me of a quote from Terry Gilliam when asked if the digital revolution in home movie making would lead to thousands of great films replied along the lines of "just buying a typewriter doesn't make you a novelist".

A couple of weeks ago at a festival I saw a screening of first short films from a number of established directors, including Ozon, Lukas Moodyson and David Lynch, and they were simply jaw droppingly amazing, and if I can find a link I'll post it. This was just a fan flic.

Dammit, sorry, it was what it was. But if you ever get a chance to see those films (the Ozon in particular), do, and see what someone can really do with a short film.

ciderwoman, I don't think the objective of the film was to be short film on par with the likes of Lynch and those other directors.

More likely, it was an exercise in putting a film together. They got to practice acting, blocking, lighting, shooting and editing. By "ripping off" effects from the Matrix, they managed to figure out how to emulate effects that cost millions of dollars and used way more advanced equipment than a consumer DV camera and final cut pro. I have a feeling that the film went from an idea to finished in less than 48 hours. I think the guys that put this together are very talented and are just getting started.

Hey everyone. I created this piece, so I'd like to point out that this is a comedy sketch -- nothing more, nothing less. This was not an attempt to rip off kung fu movies and the Matrix, but rather to reference them. Likewise, this isn't intended to be a film masterwork -- we just hoped it would be funny. Thanks to those who liked it -- I'm flattered.

(To preempt any suspicions -- I had nothing to do with the posting of this link. I've learned my lesson well.)

(Oh, and birdherder, you're off by about three weeks.)

Yeah, don't these darn kids have some arithmetic tables to work on or something? I don't see why they should be wasting their time fooling around with movies when they could be studying for the spelling bee, or something productive.

tweebiscuit, well, if you did make it then i congratulate you as i think you managed to pull off a short bit of entertainment at the little to no budget scale. Honestly, if you can make a person laugh and enjoy the story then your going to be doing well, if you can do it without money, then your doing really well. I think the mefites just have the stick of "why is this not as good as a big budget production" up thier asses.

Of course, this does beg the question of what would the state of public school be if EVERYBODY could just pull out thier fingers and blow someone elses brains away (oh, and the scenes looking through the guys "sniper" fingers were WAY too reminiscent of playing unreal tournament for me...eerie).

thanks for the post
