scheming she-devils, alive and well.the lincoln park trixie society (based in chicago) sounds like a joke: how to bed a rich man, where to find the best puppy-groomer, where to live, ad nauseum. but unfortunately...it's not. good for a laugh (or a cringe).

an update...i just spoke with the "founder" on the phone, a lady named ashley, who tells me this particular site is a parody on a real society by the same name.

she says she was involved in the circle, but was "asked to leave." (no details given and i didn't ask.) revenge must be sweet.

Honestly? I know so many "trixies" (both in and out of Lincoln Park) that I, too, didn't think it was a parody. It's too real to be a parody. I think that Ashley (or Brittany or Heather or whatever her name was...) is trying to keep the truth from you, Patrick...

Which would be altogether amusing were I not stuck in the middle of it. Indeed, the Trixies are everywhere! My building is rather infested with them.

Though, um, they are kinda nice to look at . . .

I lived 3 years in highly unstylish Hyde Park, and was granted parole to Lincoln Park only rarely ... but it was fun when I was there.

I have seen Patric around town every once in awhile, and it seems I live pretty close. Skallas is living in the hell that is Rodgers Park. Dhartung is up in... Evanston? Aladfar is apparently in Lincoln Park. Thc is a new and unknown variable. And we all work within 4 blocks of each other, it's like an Altman film.

I have to congratulate this "Ashley" on keeping up the pretense that this is "real" even on the phone. No, there is no such organization that I know of, certainly none as blatant as this. There are many (e.g. Chicago Social Club (actually a business), Chicago Sailing Club (for boat non-owners), etc., which are similar but well within deniability: "I just like to help the homeless", "I just like to get out on the water".

Mostly, I'm tickled pink that Chicago is finally getting sophisticated web parodies just like all you Bay Area types see every other week.

I certainly DID NOT speak with Patric King, although he has emailed me several times. My email to him asking him politely to remind me when he spoke with me has gone unanswered.

A friend tipped me off to the existence of this string. While I'm blushing over the incredible interest, I can assure you that the Society is not only real, but since we decided to develop a website, we've been growing very, very fast. In fact, we are nearing 2000 members (up from 1100 earlier this year). Some people think we're somehow "not for real" because we uphold standards and a way of life that are above many people. That's their tough luck... if you don't like us, then just don't come into our wonderful, quaint neighborhood.

clearing this up:

ashley and i exchanged emails earlier today. i made a mistake when i called 411 (yesterday) and ended up talking to a confused lady who, when asked if she was associated with a chicago womens' association i'd found online, replied that "she didn't talk to those girls anymore." she sounded uncomfortable, so i cut the call kind of short.

i inadvertently involved an innocent bystander. sorry for the misinformation, folks.

As a member of LPTS, let me assure you this site is no joke.
My friends and I are proud to have a forum which caters to all that is important to us. We would like to see more attention paid to Pilates classes and other exercise trends to keep in shape, but it does capture our shopping and coffee habits quite well.

I can only hope to one day be elected to the Executive Board. Perhaps when I land that dream job at Kate Spade, I can step up to the plate -- as long as its not at that horrible Wrigley Field!

i live in roscoe village which when i first moved to this neighborhood was pretty much a wasteland. now it's on the trixie list. mebbe i should move down to Logan Square--lord knows them trixies wouldn't be found there! then I could stalk patricking!

Mars,

Why do you doubt that I am serious about everything the LPTS stands for?

I adore all of the stores listed on the site, would love to find the right guy to settle down with, and enjoy spending time sipping lattes at Starbucks with my girlfriends. (My favorite store used to be the one across the street from Wrigley Field, due to the ample parking, but was in last week, and the server didn't even know what a blended latte was! Ugh! Starbucks really needs to step up their employee training, or just stop being chintzy and start buying 2% milk in all of their stores! I am currently shopping for a new favorite location, if anyone has any suggestions. Parking spaces desired, but not necessary.)

Unfortunately, one of the locations not listed on the site is the Bongo Room in Wicker Park... Which, while it is some miles away from LP, it has become a favorite weekend brunch spot for the Trixies and their male friends to "see and be seen." Wicker Park was once a hotbed of creative activity and home to many local artists on the make. With all of the Trixies checking out the action weekly while they are "slumming it" who knows where the boundaries of Lincoln Park truly are? But it is not the artists' that the trixies desire or they wouldn't be fondling their digital PCS devices (a turn off for crusty types). Another favorite spot... The dog park at Wicker, so they can let their chocolate labs and weinmariners poop while they peruse the antique stores on Milwaukee. A new offshoot of trixies: "Bongoloids" - Trixies that make a weekly trek to Wicker.
