Right into the wall!

Ties should be settled using this game, not shootouts. For those who aren't yet sick of soccer. Via the bowels of a SportsFilter linkdump, this is too challenging not to share. Shockwave. Damned hard.

Cool. Now, how about a first-person shooter where I (from my bedroom window) take aim at the cars whose Greek and Portuguese soccer-fan-drivers are honking and waving flags at 3am? Assholes.

I don't even really like soccer, but that's pretty fun.

God damn, is it ever hard!

The learning curve is so steep partially because of the number of variables. I'm still trying to figure out how much run-up I should be using.

[this is good fun]

It appears to have a fairly significant randomization in it as well. Repeating shots almost identically, even with similar (per the flag) wind results in widely different shots.

Still great fun. Enjoying it a lot.

i managed to put one past france from a dead ball situation.

(english fans will appreciate the dripping irony of the above statement...)

~50,000, but still nowhere near the top of the list.

Bend it like Beckham.

sorry to ask a serious question in a thread like this but why doesn't football have hockey-style infinite OT? (the game continues until someone scores or [lie] one team runs out of players due to heart attacks[/lie])

See, that's why baseball is the greatest game. You keep playing until someone wins. Whether that's 51 minutes, or 8 hours, you keep playing, goddamit, no matter what, until death if need be.

Yeah, I'm really not a big fan of the shootout. You end up playing a completely different game. I like the victory-or-death attitude of baseball or playoff hockey or ultimate.

Maybe soccer should move to a four-on-four overtime.

(Although personally, and in a completely off-topic manner, I found one of my favourite sports records through your link. 1,116–1,125, baby.)
