And, if they lived longer, they'd be amazing pets. I've had 7. They seem to live around 1.5 years or so before they start having problems with tumors. Their short lifespan can also be a boon. People who handle rats regularly usually develop allergies. If the lived for 10+ years that would be pretty difficult. Some rats are incredibly cute
