The DropLift: A wonderful culture jamming project. I was involved in the early stages, back when it was initially being discussed. I can't believe that they actually made it happen! The DropLift site itself provides all the materials necessary to get involved.

Brilliant. It almost makes me wish I was still working in a record store, so I could be an inside accomplice. There is a Tower down the street, though....

It makes me wish droplift had more bandwidth so the songs didn't take a jillion years to download. ...and shouldn't it be "shopdropping," not "droplifting"?

Unfortunately, they're operating on a pretty tight budget. Big pipes call for big bucks. As for the name, 'DropLift' just has a cooler ring to it. The AdBusters column suggested that they liked the humanitarian 'airlift' reference.

Kinda reminds me of the B.L.O stunt. I love stuff like this, whenever I get the feeling, I try walking up to the counter with something that is obviously not for sale. A 3' cardboard cutout of nail polish that is meant to advertise the product for example, just to see what happens. More often than you would think the confusion causes them to tell you to take it for free rather than say it is not for sale. Sucks to be the dope behind the counter, looking for barcodes that are not there tho.

my friend and i came up with 'shop-putting' years ago when we were ... well basically mallrats. i'm definitely going to try this out. my wife found this great children's book at IKEA.. in one of the displays there were dozens of copies on a bookshelf. we asked about the price but were told it wasn't for sale. now i've got to track down a copy elsewhere, though i may just bring it up to a register if i get out there again anytime soon.

Thats funny, Ikea are usually pretty good at keeping only things they actually sell in their displays.
