I've seen this before, but I can't remember the circumstances. I think it was because he had a new show on one of the networks that lasted about 4 weeks. This would have been a year or two ago (I'm guessing). I imagined it at the time as just a publicity stunt. I think this was during the stage that Dice had supposedly "turned nice" and then was trying to pull a "gotcha" and tell everyone he was never really nice, it was all a joke and a sham, and everyone is a fucking moron for even believing it. Kinda like something Andy Kaufman would do, except that Dice is no Andy Kaufman.

Well, interestingly enough, if you watch the video, you'll hear Andrew say to the reporter, "every time I do an interview, guy wants to open his fucking mouth. can't even do a little routine here." I think he was trying to do the role of Andrew Dice Clay (cause that's what he's trying to do - make a comeback), and the reporter was trying to speak to the private person behind the act. Of course, he didn't want to talk about himself, he wanted to be Andrew Dice Clay. I don't know if that was a miscommunication between him and CNNfn or part of the routine, but I have to say, it seemed less like a publicity 'stunt' and more like a miscommunication where he tried to maintain his focus on staying in character.

From what I understand, GG has an entirely different reputation in "comic" circles than he does in the broader world. (I thought he was great in "Aladdin", but most of his work in TV and movies has been pretty lame.) If you go back to that "Aristocrats" FPP of a little while ago, you can get better sense of how he's more of a "comic's comic". He's kind of like the last of the Buddy Hackett breed...innocuous and goofy public persona, but unbelievably profane and crude live.

I saw the Art Carney Situation play at Maxwell's in Hoboken in '93. Their played a few songs and then just did this like feedback thing for about 45 minutes. Awesome. Since it doesn't deserve its own FPP, here's a video of Glen Danzig getting coldcocked by some fat guy.

Gilbert Godfrey has enjoyed an excellent career as a stand-up comic among other things. The problem is that people judge the success of a stand-up comic by how many sitcoms they have which can be two totally different things.

(it looks like everybody and his brother is dying to see danzig get coldcocked) i thought Gilbert Gottfr*ied* was an idiot too, but i grew up with USA Up All Night. he definitely gets some points of some sort for his performance at Hefner's roast (scroll down to "Ice-T Did My Act")
