He's right about the towel thing. I've never given a cat an enema (*KNOCKS ON WOOD*) but I've clipped nails and given eye drops and oral antibiotics and if you just wait until they are chilling somewhere, approach them calmly, and do it FAST it goes much more smoothly than wrapping them in a damn towel.

jennyb -- I second that. Forget the towel and other protective efforts. Be quick and masterful and show the cat who's boss. There should only be one pussy in this encounter. Don't look or act frightened or anxious. As long as they think you know what you're doing, they'll be okay. You can bathe 'em, give 'em pills, trim the fur off their butts, and -- I guess -- even do what this guy did.

I've seen many pics of the cat on the site and for some reason i don't think that is his cat. Which leads me to believe he made the whole thing up. Also surgery would not be mentioned without knowing the cause of the blockage which he doesn't seem to know.

i tend to sort of sit on my wife's cat to clip his nails (or other unfriendly-to-a-cat procedures, like trimming off knots in his long hair). if i pin him between my knees and use my heels to keep him from backing up away from me, he holds still, otherwise he gets mad and runs off. my cat on the other hand is pretty calm, and will let me grab his feet and trim away, no fussing.

enemas aside, i once talked to a couple who tried to remove loose hair from their cat with a vacuum. they ended up with a cat that still shed hair, and a very large chunk of skin and hair removed from the top of the husband's head. not a good idea to scare or piss of a fully clawed cat...
