Watch out for the site that hosts Fishy... I saw a call to gator.com as a page was loading. IE users beware.

I think we may have mefried the hi-score database. I could submit until a few minutes a go, and now it just hangs at "processing..." Anyway, 1538!

Eh. I have serious problems with the gameplay on this thing.

The "powerups" mostly seem nonsensical. The only ones that seem useful are "invincibility" and "bubbles only."

"Bullet Time" would be worthwhile if it worked right, as in everything else slows down but YOU are able to move at your normal speed. However, since you slow way down too, it sucks. "Speed," on the other hand, is harrowing, and once your bubble gets large it's downright dangerous and instantly game-ending to get it. "Druggie" looks pretty cool but makes it a lot harder to see what's on the screen. "Bouncy" is also useless as it only makes you bounce off the side walls. That's all the ones I've seen so far.

Also, there's too much random element in how far you get. Since your bubble gets bigger and bigger, your ability to avoid the large number of random spikeballs diminishes rapidly as the score goes up. Yes, I know, that's the point, but the game requires far more dependence on random chance to get high scores than on developed skill. It's possible for a combination of spikeballs to come down such that even at an early point, when your bubble is small, you can't avoid them.

So, it's a cool idea, and fun for a few minutes, but not a day-waster like the wonderful and charming stuff over at Orisinal.

the thing that makes the powerups worthwhile though, is that they are all worth 50 points and don't make you any bigger...

didn't notice that. but seeing as that's the case, wouldn't the optimal strategy be to just avoid all normal bubbles and only go for the powerups?

juv3nal: 1690 first time following your strategy, after a previous best of 350something over 10 or so attempts the collecting-bubbles way. So ... yes.
