Maybe, maybe not. But it is hard to deny the influence these lies have had on our culture for the better part of a century. Maybe the answer is a question. Does a lie repeated often enough finally become the truth?

Blavatsky, it is heavily influenced by the Hinduism she learned in the East. It teaches inner divinity, and adopts a pantheon of gods. It is not Christian in any sense and is dangerous to the soul. Not exactly what I would consider an unbiased examination of theosophy. For a non-Christian, skeptical view, try the Skeptic's Dictionary. For more primary source materials, there is the theosophical section of the always impressive Internet Sacred Text Archives.

i have, somewhere in the endless pile of insignifica i have managed to agglomerate over the years, a copy of "The Coming Great Golden Age of Esotericism", a fascinating 1940's treatise on how to excrete beams of light from ones chakras to the benefit of mankind and the universe in general.

Even the Roman Catholics are not safe from the holier-than-thou judgment of CARM. From the same website: If a roman catholic believes in the official roman catholic teaching salvation, then he is not a christian since the official rcc position is contrary to scripture. therefore, as a whole, roman catholics need to be evangelized. And quonsar, you have no idea how fucked up the universe would be if I wasn't excreting from my chakras. ;)

"I means you no disrespect..." Youze given me no dizrezpect at allz. I'm quite blithe and blase about my biases. how to excrete beams of light from ones chakras to the benefit of mankind and the universe in general. I did that once! Well, not really, but during a New Agey art class in college, we were told to lie down and make a pendulum suspended over our heads move by visualizing a burst of purple from our forehead chi zones. I visualized huge, wet spurts of bright yellow instead. The pendulum moved anyway.

This is a very interesting site, and the capsule descriptions of crackpot religions is excellent. Of course, you factor in the site's bias -- which is intellegently, if not conclusively, argued itself.
