Hundreds of kinds of mixed seeds, soil humus, and dry powdered red brown clay, form the solid components of seed balls.

sudama - Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I was building a shade-structure today, for an organic farmer. I remembered hearing of Fukuoka's work but couldn't recall the specifics or even his name. I wanted to tell the farmer of this better method but couldn't recall anything.

I actually had thought of this - Fukuoka's better method - a number of times in the past two or three days and had racked my memory - to no avail. I was resigned to a slow, arduous trek towards the origin.

Then came your post.

Fukuoka's book "The One-Straw Revolution" is a classic.
Bill Mollison ,Fukuoka and Wes Jackson all deserve credit for keeping alive and reviving sustainable methods of farming.
Sudama thanks for the link.

Wow! So simple and elegant. What a great idea. Plus they look chocolate and salty.

(Nature does the same thing with dung, but it's still a good idea)

Also, this is somewhat similar to a method used to get orchids and
their required fungus delivered to the same site for germination.

sudama - again, thanks. I've found a new muse/sage in Fukuoka.

He somehow melts, in my pantheon, into Sahtouris
