That's handy for me -- people often leave messages for me (or links, etc.) in their away messages, and since AIM is blocked at work this is a great way to check those from time to time.

...but I'm sure there are plenty of ways it can be used in a "vaguely disturbing" manner ;-)

Or you can get AIMutation or DeadAIM, which not only keep track of signons & offs but both also automatically save every conversation you have in log managers.
