Eyeballoverload can be described as follows: "Nick Spark is a California-based photographer who specializes in montage or composite photography. This is a technique in which dozens, if not hundreds, of photos are seamlessly pasted together to create a unified image. The result is a balanced, yet highly detailed view of reality... albeit slightly enhanced."

Neat stuff, shame he's got the pics resolution turned down so much or I'm sure it would be way better. I'd like to see some of this stuff in person though.

I like his idea of combining as many aspects of a city as possible into a single visual space (cityscapes). The result has a rich yet minimalist, graphic quality to it. By pruning the non-symbolic components out of the source photographs, he creates an eyeballoverload indeed. That is my conjecture anyway, based on the low-res samples.

I will attempt to do something similar with my many, many rolls of travel photos. What a great idea - does anyone know of other artists exploring similar constructs? Looks like I've got something to do next winter...

On the cityscapes, is it me, or did he use the same photograph of a limo in both the New York and Los Angeles nocturns? (Look in the bottom left.)

Reminds me of the stylized montage drawings that were popular in the 80's and 90's, in which landmarks of a city were all cartoonized into one image. So this is an old idea, but done with photoshop instead of ink. Blah.

salmacis: it's you. The NY shot is from close to ground level -- you can see under the limo to the far wheels. The LA shot is from eye level.

"seamlessly pasted together"

I take great issue with this use of phrase. I see nothing but seams, everywhere.

Doh! Mefi'd another one. We really need to stop killing innocent web sites.
