The inimitable ConeyIslandMermaidParade. OK, it was a month ago, but these photo galleries make for some fun browsing. Planning your costume for next year? Our resident mermaidologist offers some inspiration. (some nudity - it's mermaids after all!)

Looks like a more 'normal,' low-key neighborhood version of Fantasy Fest in Key West.
p.s. Who knew MeFi had a resident mermaidologist? That's a great site, iconomy. posted by LeLiLo at 10:23 AM on July 25, 2004
Coney Island is at once amazing and disgusting--definitely worth a trip if your in NYC if you're into urban ruins-sur-mer. posted by ParisParamus at 10:29 AM on July 25, 2004
That and there's great hot dogs and the boardwalk is still fun, and it's a quick walk over to New York's "Little Odessa" in Brighton Beach. posted by jonmc at 10:34 AM on July 25, 2004
Hey, PP, we actually agree on something... Cool links, madamjujujive! posted by notsnot at 12:02 PM on July 25, 2004
I love the Mermaid Parade! I've made the trek to Coney Island the last two years (in heat and rain, respectively) but had to miss it this year. It's a lot easier to get close enough to see along the boardwalk than anywhere along the otherwise also great Village Halloween Parade. posted by Songdog at 5:29 AM on July 26, 2004
