Reading this reminds me of how, prior to the break-up, making a long distance call was a big deal because of the high costs involved. Now the rates are cheap and many people have reasonably priced flat rate national calling plans. The break-up of the monopoly and deregulation of the industry have been good for consumers. Deregulation helped airline consumers as well. Whether it has benefited the industries is quite another story.
