Very nifty! The Leaden Flycatcher has a neat egg. I've wondered how the pigment and patterns get laid down on the shell--anyone know? Thanks for the cool link, interrobang.

We found an empty egg just this afternoon. Now I can go around, all knowing, announcing it's a House Sparrow. Thanks, interrobang!

Excellent stuff. Eggs are nifty. I've handled ostrich eggs like that first link, unfertilized and so blown hollow and kept by the fellow from the zoo who actually delivered them. Wow. Kind of pocked and porous with a calcium-chalkiness to them, thick and sturdy but of course always undeniably fragile. And big!

And who hasn't found a robin's egg at least once, picked it up and marveled over it? Very cool.
