they don't seem to mention hilo, which is the location of my only diner experience. we were at a meeting earlier this year and had breakfast there every day. i put on 2kg in a week. at first i started with just juice + coffee, but then it was the pancakes (5 different syrups!) and finally the vegetarian blt (but with real bacon - that way you get the wholemeal bread and avocado ;o).

Aw, I love it. Diners are my thing. Mickey's Diner in my hometown of St. Paul remains my gold standard.
I live in New Jersey, where my hometown has two diners, and every township I can think of of the top of my head hosts at least one.
Is it true that they are less common in other parts of the country? I don't recall encountering any diners when I lived in Portland, OR. posted by Karmakaze at 10:00 AM on July 29, 2004
They seem to be much more common in the Northeast, Karmakaze.
In the South, we have 'em, but a lot of 'em are Waffle Houses. posted by Vidiot at 12:44 AM on July 30, 2004
