iTunes (and Audible) make the 9-11 Comission and speeches from the Democratic National Convention available for free downloads. Thought this was cool. Couldn't find a previous post about this, so pardon if a double post.

A link to Apple's web site isn't as helpful as links to the actual recordings. I don't think many would download iTunes if they didn't have it already, just to hear the recordings. The convention speeches are here. Two separate files. The executive summary of the 9/11 Commission Report is here.

The convention speeches are also here, on the convention website, in non-DRMed MP3 format. Plus you only have to download the ones you want instead of the whole night's worth.

I think matteo was being sarcastic. This is cool though and I will look forward to downloading the speeches tonight. By the way, I'm glad someone linked to the actual download sites as there's nothing at iTunes that points the way so, a good SPP and a meager FPP. But good info to have nonetheless.

The mp3's from the convention's page have some distortions. Aside from that, they are 128kbs – better than iTunes's 32kbs.

Not sure if you know about this, rathikd, but Control-clicking (OK, right-clicking) on links inside the store will bring a up a contextual menu with an option to save the link to the clipboard. Also, you can drag links into text fields like e-mail messages and MeFi posting fields and such. Might be a Mac-only trick, though. I didn't know the audiobook files in the iTunes store were lower quality. Huh.

Every time I try to download these files from iTMS i get: "There was an error downloading your purchased music. An unknown error occured (-50)." Lame. Thanks for the alt link, smackfu.
