hehehehe. If the amount of people who claim "I'm almost tempted to vote for Nader" actually vote for him, I think he'll come pretty damn close to winning the election.

Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura made a great point on NPR when asked what he felt about voters saying they were "throwing their vote away by choosing someone like Nader." The basic premise of his answer was that if people say they're not voting for a particular candidate because they "won't win" then they've already trashed their vote - because they're not voting with their heart.

I've made my decision after being a long-standing liberal democrat for many, many years. It's time for me to vote with my heart and choose Nader.

i don't understand the 'throwing your vote away' argument at all. it implies that unless you vote for the winner, then you vote was worthless. that's just silly. if candidate x wins, and you voted for him/her, so what? is there some sort of quid pro quo that i've been missing out on?

oh yea, and my vote is meaningless anyway, but i don't mind doing pointless things. since nader didn't get on the ballot here, i'll probably write him in, despite the fact that state law doesn't allow that.

The throw your vote away argument is a great way to maintain a 2 party system. I've heard more than a few Nader replies to this, like voting for the least worst = worse candidates. Or the more people who move away from the Dems and towards the Green would give a clear message to the Dems to pick up on Progressive agendas or lose numbers. The fact that if he gets 5% the Green party will be able to get federal funding for 2004. Or simply voting should be about what you believe is right for your country not to be on the "winner's side" or put up the obligatory "Don't blame me I voted for Bush (or whomever)" bumper sticker when you're not on the winner's side.

"Don't blame me...I voted for Kodos."

I haven't heard anyone say they're throwing their vote away. Everyone I know voting for Gore is scared of another President Bush. Frankly, I am too, but I'm voting for Nader.
