Side note :- The 'A.' in 'Edwin A. Abbott' stood for 'Abbott', so if he his career in the Church had progressed in that particular direction, he would have become 'Abbot Edwin Abbott Abbott'... how cool is that?!

Mentioned at the first link: "Flatterland: Like Flatland, Only More So", by Ian Stewart. Which I have, and recommend highly. Also I have Rucker's "Spaceland", which is okay; but I preferred Stewart's book. (I bought them at the same time.)

i read flatterland i think, very strange book... yet more difficult to put down than i thought. bizarre stuff.

I can not recommend The Planiverse highly enough. Thats where Yendreds tale comes from.
