Swim, Katie, Swim! From the Hike With Your Dog site comes the story of Katie, a water-loving dog who is on a quest (well, maybe it is her owner's quest) to swim in "all the great waters of North America." The quest started on her way home from the kennel in September 1998, and continues to this day. From the Atlantic Ocean to the Yampa River, this animal has done some serious doggy paddling. [Caution: lots of pictures may cause slow loading]

Not to be a party-pooper, but I can't imagine a dog loving to traverse every watery expanse. Katie's Quest? The dog's not getting anything out of this, it's the owners.

Mach3avelli, I gotta disagree. Some dogs are just water dogs. (Mine is a car dog, he loves car rides, in any vehicle, at any time.) They love swimming, love going places in a river or a lake and will gladly stay in all day if given the option. While it's obviously the owner's quest, if Katie is a water dog (and she pretty much has to be, by this point), I'm sure she's getting satisfaction from it as well.

She should quit while she's ahead. It can only end in tragedy.

We have a water dog. Bring her near a body of water and it is harder to keep her out of it than to get her in it. Also, she would much rather travel and walk with us than hang around the house by herself. Thus, while this may be the owner's quest and not Katie's, it is probably goof fun for the dog none the less.
