I don't think they're pleading ignorance, owillis. People that old usually aren't put in prison for the fact that they will die there (defeating the "rehab" theory of prison), expensive care, people don't usualy consider old people dangerous, etc. Exepect them to walk.

Okay, they assign a "street value" of $600k to the haul. And it comprises 98lbs of harvested weed, and 500 plants? Now I've only got Amsterdam prices to go on here, but hasn't the DOJ more or less made up that number to make their bust sound good?

Say pot is legalized in this country, and Monsanto engineers a GM version that's cheaper and delivers a more efficient buzz, or one that wears off completely in an hour. Would all the usual protestors take to the streets?

Holgate, they do the same everywhere when talking up drugs busts. The British way of doing it is to take the 'street' value of a small amount (with dope it's usually a sixteenth of an ounce at £15), then multiply that price by the weight of the seizure. So the 'street' value is always significantly higher than the amount the perpitrator was ever likely to make selling the stuff themselves. Of course the benefit is improved public perception. When a couple of milliom pounds worth of cocaine is seized at Dover, it's big news, what you don't hear about very often is the weight, since that wouldn't be as impressive and would invite questions about the true value. And you're right, $600 grand? Made up number.

the brothers could move to switzerland--they just legalized it. by the by, the cops recently uncovered 198lbs of weed in chicago in 2 lb bricks. hmmm...just shy of an even 200lbs...methinks the coppers are having a party with that "missing" brick.
