Zach Braff's Garden State Blog. Yeah, semi-PepsiBlue, but Braff talks about more than the movie, and the star of a movie choosing to write a weblog for a few months is a bit more of a commitment than the usual handful of talk shows.

Star, screenwriter and director. I'd say the level of commitment is about right.

That's a lot of damn comments.

If I had pictures of me making out with Natalie Portman, I'd try and talk about it and post pictures of it all over the internet too.

No. I'm not incredibly, incredibly jealous.

And if you've not seen the movie, do so. I loved it.

(Yeah. Pepsi Blue me.)

Thanks. Interesting link. But this?

Some of you have been asking about the rating. Just so you all know, your government doesn't believe a 16 year old should hear the word "fuck" more than twice in a 2 hour period.

Zach, just so you know, the MPAA is not the government.

Wait. Are you saying that the government LIKES for 16 year olds to hear the word "fuck" more than twice in a 2 hour period?

Fuuuuuuuck.

Braff is enough of a regular guy to use apostrophes when he makes things plural. Ordinarily I'd summon Bob the Angry Flower but in this case it kind of makes him more likable. Like your ex-girlfriend who always misspelled definitely "definately" but you didn't want to correct her.

I didn't, anyway.

I saw an advanced screening of this where Zach came out after the movie and answered questions for a good long while. He came across as a dedicated, interesting guy who's genuinely nice.

The movie is really good too.

I wish iTunes would offer the whole soundtrack album, though.

emelenjr: My friend GrandmasterP always spells tomorrow "tommorow," but he's doing a PhD in physics, so I let it slide.

Yeah, it's a good coming-of-age tale, quirky but serious enough. I was in love with it right up to the end, where it disappointed me a little. Natalie Portman steals the show. Marcy has a review at our site.

Cool. This was an amazing film.

wilberforce: But then will it be "Dr. GrandmasterP" or "DoktorGrandmasterP"? I'd only let the "tommorow" thing slide if the latter.

excellent Peter Sarsgaard (my favorite character in the movie, he thankfully brings down the cuteness/romantic-comedy factor) interview on NPR here. Sarsgaard was terrifyingly good in Boys Don't Cry, I think

btw I think that the Chicago Reader is spot-on, if a bit generous, in writing that

The movie never finds a consistent tone--the humor is dynamically offbeat, the dramatic moments a bit canned--but Braff's affection for his misfit characters and skeptical take on how people sell themselves short in America make this the truest generational statement I've seen since Donnie Darko

and I think Ian Holm's part is massively underwritten, and an amazing actor like him is criminally underused by Braff -- Holm desperately tries to find to something to bite in his scene, but never finds it.
it's a rookie mistake by Braff, and a forgivable one, but it's big nonetheless

Or watch someone getting fucked doggiestyle, which is also in the movie, and might go a little further to explain the rating.

POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW....

Those who've seen it -- can you explain to me why someone sent away to boarding school beginning at age 12 has so many highschool friends around town who remember the good times so fondly? Did I miss something?

He went to boarding school at 16, I thought?

OK -- same question. The movie acts like he has a partyin' high school history with all these people. Even to the point that when Natalie Portman says she knows him from somewhere, he suggests, "Maybe from _____ High?"

Scrubs is also one of the least annoying and consistently funny (in a mean way) sitcoms going. Branff is perfect in it. ALthough it did have me waiting for him to bust one of those weird expressions in Garden State.
