I really want to try the miracle fruit. Has anyone ever managed to purchase some?

These are the worst fruit reviews I've ever read. Ok they're the only ones, but this person knows nothing about fruit and has terrible taste in them. Too bad.

I just got back from a trip... had a bit of dragon fruit, mangosteen, rambutan, and (they missed this one) Durian - the only food that I literally gagged on while there. It's the nastiest, strongest smelling, gooiest mass of buttery substance to ever go down my throat. Yick.

Durian is in the "Fruits still yet to be rated" list. Tomplus2, perhaps you could submit your review. I'm a fan of the durian, but will readily admit it smells god awful.

Metafilter: The gooiest mass of buttery substance to ever go down my throat.

Stores carrying it usually put them on display straight out of the
freezer to curb the smell. I guess it might make them harder to pick.

I like durians very much, thank you.

Anyone who rates avocado, one of the most perfect foods, as the 4th-worst-tasting fruit, obviously has no idea what they're talking about.

Also, Jackfruit, which is not listed, is tasty, but has an oniony aftertaste that is very hard to get rid of.

Its an old site and the reviewer doesn't like fruit.

Avo's are bad? Uh, okay, then let me have all of yours forever.

Rambutan is has the texture of blue styrofoam and the flavour of wet kleenex.

Had a curry the other day made with something that claimed to be called Shatjoora or something similar - seems to be a close relative of the lemon. Can't find any reference to it anywhere (I've tried a few variants of the spelling anywhere). Anyone got any ideas what it is?

I know it's really an Ask MeFi thing, but since there's a fruit thread right here...

I'd also like to stick up for tamarind. Mind you I only ever buy it dried, and rehydrate small amounts to cook with, but it definitely has its place.

But is magnificent when used as a meat substitute in cooking, as they do in Indonesia sometimes.
