I'm thinking about doing something similar to use with a VOIP phone and my second sound card.

If I didn't hate cell phones, I'd get something like this. Those tiny cell phones are stupid and, dare I say, unnatural. :)

If I ever--- ever see somebody using the DJ Convoy, I will garrotte them with their own cords. and steal their iPod.

In fact, I might make it my life's mission to hunt down and kill that model.

I'm just sayin'....

Surely at least one of these models should be called the Nathan Barley.

I want a model that looks like this.

Way cool - I would use one, I can barely dial my freakin' Nokia without "mashing" the wrong button, let alone hold the thing to my head. Frankly I think the entire target market and focus group they used must have been Japanese pre-teen schoolgirls. Miniaturization is nice, but most of us simply can't evolve that fast.

Obligatory Simpsons reference:

[Homer tries to call the nuclear power plant]
Voice on Phone: "The fingers you have used to dial are too fat. To obtain a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad with your palm now."

I'm about to dump my home phone and use my cell phone exclusively. I would definitely buy one of these.

This is pretty neat. However, I can solder and am sure there is a way to do this oneself fairly inexpensively.

Cell phone Pinout google search

Shouldn't be much work at all given the appropriate connector & a modicum of research. Wonder why he hooked it to the port on the bottom of the phone rather than the hands free headset port. Hmm.

A better pinout link

A guy I used to work with had a part-time job in a television store (this was a while back, obviously) as a sales/service guy. They used to sell TVs by telling customers that they were made of "telephone plastic" and asking them if they'd ever seen a broken telephone (okay, it was a long while back, when the telco owned the phone and they were made to last).

Now, back to the original thread, which was already in progress.

I want one that looks like this. Think those scum-sucking Williamsburg hipsters are gonna out-do me?

These are pretty fucking sweet, to be sure, but wouldn't the handset suck your battery power dry? I mean, they have to be entire orders of magnitude less efficient than a modern handset.

I endorse the basic idea on the basis of perversity alone, but I wonder about what mkultra said also.

Actually as someone who's never really gotten used to the weird "is this brain cancer" microwave feeling of a normal cel phone right up to my skull, or the Time Life operator feeling of a headset, I love the idea of a nice headset with frightening cel device kept away from my head. [This is great]
