(Nearly) Unbreakable

Shake it, don't break it! Linked article reviews a few laptops that can really take a beating. Hey, I adore my sexy, sleek Sony Vaio, but I have to admit, if I ever dropped it, I'd have a really big problem. (This article is from April, so I did search of MeFi and there were no returns, so enjoy!)

Just dropped my iBook one meter yesterday while bicycling... A big dent in one corner, but works otherwise fine. *Note to self: Backup, now.*

(El capacito: I once heard that while urinating in a restaurant's men's room.)

I've never quite understood why GRiD was such a marketplace flop; Tandy bought them, then shut the division down just as the ruggedized market was beginning to mature. Today, GRiD -- reconstituted as GSCS -- sells military-grade products.

Memorably, a GRiD salesman slammed one onto a conference table for our cringeful response.
