Ceci n’est pas une goatse.cx

There's a couple of nerds sitting around and snickering behind their hands, I'm sure.

heh. I love that one of the joke goatse.cx images has been mistaken for a real photo so much that Snopes had to debunk it.

On the serious side, do people really think that Al Queda operatives are going to get into the US by following the paths of migrant workers through the wilds of Baja? Because that doesn't really seem likely to me, and it appears this is an election year ploy to drum up anti-immigration feelings.

Semi-clever photos linked from the Snopes article.

And it's very Magrite-like too, what with the background clouds.

davidmsc, the cover graphic for this week is reminiscent of goatse.cx.

time magazine ... yhbt ... hth ... hand ... (snicker)

i wonder what discontent in the art department felt it necessary to do that ...

Yeah - definitely a designer/geek laughing his face off (though there's no wedding ring...)

isnt Time a liberal magazine? in more ways than one, too!

David, the french is the title for a celebrated painting by surrealist rene magritte, Ceci n'est pas une pipe, or in English, this is not a pipe.

Missing a wedding ring. That would have been the clincher.

The Toastmasters logo (SFW) reminds me of goatse.cx. I think I will never see things the same.

Bigger Toastmasters logo (SFW).

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!

I'm in Toastmaster's, riffola! Thanks very little! Now I will never see that logo the same.

I love the main story image! I know it had to be an inside job...

Ah. Got it. Although I think that linking the Time cover to the graphic pix of goatse.cx is quite a stretch.

Heh.

Wow, this is even better than the Newsweek article on Iraq where the text had been subtly altered to give a subliminal image of Tubgirl.

Actually I find the idea of a goatse tribute site a little disturbing... I'm sure I'm not the only one...
posted by clevershark at 1:29 PM on September 12, 2004

Okay, this does some damage to my image of Time Magazine (which wasn't all that high anyway), but more disturbingly, it also does some damage to my image of madamjujujive for pointing it out (although the Magritte reference was just about the classiest way possible to frame it).

Good catch, mjjj. But those of you who are going on about the wedding ring - wow, you've really studied the goatse image that closely? I don't know whether to be impressed or terrified.
posted by soyjoy at 6:55 PM on September 12, 2004

Soyjoy, it seems I'm not the only one fascinated by shiny things.

Also, when you see Mr. Goatse's business end by accident, the wedding ring is something to focus on instead of the, uh, other ring.
