I was gonna say that's really good for some fan site, but then I saw this is a scan from an old Dark Horse comic. (So I guess read it now- isn't Lucas one of those "agressively defends all copyrights" companies, like Matt Groening?)

Great art, especially the small detail gags.

Beautiful, perfect. "...blatantly doctored evidence..." and "No one should have the power to rewrite history." And the excellent point that it just doesn't make sense. Nicely done and a beautiful way to make the point.

It's been changed in the SE v2.0 (the DVDs) to a nearly simultaneous exchange of blaster fire. I still don't buy it. On the plus side, if you run it in slow motion, you'll see that Solo actually now pumps two rounds into "poor Greedo."

What really cheeses me off is how they replaced the original voice of Boba Fett with Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in the prequels. His readings have none of the menace or bravado of the originals, which were a huge part of what made Fett such a popular character in the first place; and if Fett weren't so popular, it's doubtful Morrison would be playing his "father" in the prequels. Oops, done geeking out now.

Now witness the judiciary power of this fully armed and operational court system!

Brilliant. Thanks, Mwongozi.

Looks like it's from Star Wars Tales #14. I highly recommend those comics -- they're usually hilarious or outright cool, since they can do stuff in a few pages that'd never work in a full-length series or novel. (Plus they put several issues together and sell them as a graphic novel from time to time -- #5 will be out in January.)

Just yesterday, I saw this revised scene for the very first time (I missed out on the special edition theatrical releases, and my laserdiscs don't include the revision). Regardless of who should or should not have shot first, I have to say that the change to the film looks really poorly done.

In some ways it's easy to understand Lucas, whose films have influenced the young minds of more than one generation, who conceived of Star Wars as a fairy tale and then made it universal with archetypes straight out of mythology and Joseph Campbell: He wants to be sure he has a positive influence, and he is afriad of the power his films wield.

Still, the revision doesn't work well, and we all pretty much assumed that Han shot first because he knew Greedo was going to kill him anyway. No harm done to our "delicate moralities."

On a related note, Clint Eastwood was one of the first "cowboys" to shoot first (Ennio Morricone had none of Lucas's qualms!), and John Wayne refused when asked to shoot first in a film scene in which he was outnumbered by enemies in a bar; Wayne was told that Eastwood would shoot first with no problem, and Wayne replied along the lines of "I DON'T CARE WHAT THAT KID WOULD DO! I DON'T SHOOT FIRST!"

It's all amusing, ain't it? I wish I would've remembered all this when people were still reading this thread ;-)

OOPS! Damn, I meant to say Sergio Leone, not Ennio Morricone. Blame Morricone, whose music plays through my head every time I even think of a spaghetti western.
