Watch, watch it now... watch!
I'm Dr. Julius Sumner Miller, and physics is my business.
Witness the drama of science in video clips from a groundbreaking 1960s program, and ask yourself, Why is it so?

His man Anderson "executes his responsibilities with uncommon care and diligence". How sweet and innocent everything seemed back then. I just love the one about the knobs...

The prof reminds me so much of The Wizard of Oz, only scruffier. Thanks for this link - must watch every one.

Notice however much it rotates gentlemen, and however much it gets deformed, does it not always end up how?

Hilarious. What a funny old man.

Canadians (and some Americans) will remember him as "The Professor" from the awesome Hilarious House of Frightenstein.

Yes, I saw this guy on PBS on an afternoon long ago. I've been looking for tapes of complete episodes ever since. The closest I've ever gotten is Western Instructional Television. The professor is pure awesomeness in a bottle and I wanted to burn his antics to DVD, because if anyone deserves a DVD box set, it's this man. The search continues.

Oh wow, we used to watch videos of this show in my middle school science classes in the 80s. We (okay, nerdy I) used to look forward to the next installment because he was so entertaining. I agree, a DVD box set would be superb. Great find, and a superb post. Thanks!

I stubbled across that Frightenstein page a while back while looking for a DVD box set myself, and that "I say GO BACK" mp3 is classic.

See also this thread for his Australian heir.

I read that as his Australian HAIR. Scruffiness lends credibility to the mad professor types, and he's got it goin' on.

Very cool stuff.

He used to do Cadbury chocolate advertiments here (Australia). Sucking a hard-boiled egg into a milk bottle by dropping a burning piece of paper in it. I KNOW there is "a glass and a half of full-cream dairy milk in every two hundred gram block of Cadbury chocolate" because the Professor said so. A mainstay of Australian TV, they occasionally use these segments as filler between programs on the ABC.

My great-aunt and uncle used to know this guy.

I remember staying at their farm back in the 80s and being told proudly that "professor sumner-miller was here last week!"

Sorry...I was so excited I messed up his quotes!

The good Professor quotes Michael Faraday: "Is not that wonderful to look at; is not that marvelous to see!"

Yes! Yes, Professor...a million times YES!

Experimenting with knobs - During this experiment Professor Julius makes sure we get a good view of his man Anderson. See how his assistant, who "executes his responsibilities with uncommon care and diligence", helps make sparks fly.

Oh, that is just twisted!
