Things like this make me glad I spent the 80s trying to catch crawdads in the hickiest part of Indiana. I remember watching Lewis in the '88 Olympics, however. I had respect for him when I was a seven year old. I don't know any more.

Well the weirdest thing for me*, is that he's reknowned for his athletic ability and yet he resolutely remains sitting throughout almost all of the video. Did he suffer some sort of accident that reduced his mobility or something, because that aside, it's extremely odd. You'd think he's at least stand up and jiggle about a little. As somone I would have done, during my 'curious' teen years, this video is very distrurbing. *Ok, ok, apart from the old-lady fetish.

As a child of the '80s, I feel I have a civic duty to inform the current generation about just how gawdawful those years were, lest they start thinking, in their ironic embrace of its kitsch, that there was something cute about it. This video will make a fine addition to my usual prosecution exhibits in the case of Basic Human Decency v. The '80s, which to date have included my old Dokken cassettes, the episode of ALF where Alf befriends a blind woman and winds up singing along to a Chipmunks album with her over a bottle of wine, and the movie Cocktail (which is probably the most morally reprehensible film of all time, and I'm counting snuff films in that accounting). Thankfully, I've never had to use my ultimate secret weapon: a photo of me at my Grade 8 formal where I'm sporting my most mulletlike hair, which I've ill-advisedly paired with Miami Vice pastels and a date with foot-high bangs. Like a nuclear weapon, I hope that the horrific power of its mere existence will mean that I never have to use it. And don't get me started on Reagan. Seriously.

His recorded single on the site was produced by a German. When it's a non-Olympic year, US Track & Field stars are more well known in Europe than in the USA. thomcatspike: I guess I don't get the point of your answer. My snark was about why Americans could stick Lewis down the memory hole for being gay, but then say he got screwed if he's punished for cheating. The answer, as I saw it, was that if he cheated, and won, that made the cheating alright. (Doesn't really explain why they're not cool with him being gay, I'll admit that.) Not really anything to do with who made the video, where the video was made, who worked on the video, or where the cameras were manufactured.

(2) Can you find something that confirms where Mr. Lewis confirms his fabulousness? I know he vehemently denied it, back in the day, after the 84 Olympics, and I haven't seen any out-and-out (so to speak) confirmations since then.

The two thoughts were separate. The gay comment, was an answer to an earlier comment about his rumor. The second, was an additional comment to the thread about me recently seeing him sing the National Anthem as it related to the post.

Jeremias, thank you twice. Once for this post, and once for the link to Lewis attempting to sing the national anthem. I don't think he forgets the words as much as his vocal chords frequently balk and back up in a desperate attempt to hit the high notes. It's god freaking awful. Without exaggeration it's the worst singing I have ever heard.
