The Most Unfortunate Campaign Sign Ever Is it a sign of the Apocalypse? Is it a sign of how the future will be if the religious reich gets the federal power they want? Or is it just unfortunate? posted by StormBear (33 comments total)

Or is it just unfortunate wholly uninteresting? posted by biffa at 6:03 AM on October 11, 2004
You guys don't get it. There's a candidate whose actual name is "Priest," and he's running for the office of Judge. It makes it look like a real priest is running for judge! And there's a lot of controversy now about church-state issues, so it's ironic on two levels. TWO! Stormbear owes me a new keyboard. posted by stupidsexyFlanders at 6:09 AM on October 11, 2004

It certainly appears so.

Yep, guilty I admit. But I thought the irony was overwhelming, especially since it is a candidate in the South.
I thought it was amusing. posted by Foosnark at 7:00 AM on October 11, 2004
So then, actually it wouldn't be ironic, since the implication is that we're in the south so this sort of thing would be expected. Or something. Oh boy I'm confused now.
Actually I just took one of these signs off the side of the road since I thunk it so cool looking.
BTW, what's up storm? Scott here. From forcefield. posted by glenwood at 7:13 AM on October 11, 2004

There is a guy running for mayor here named Cuntz. I have seen a few signs with the z covered up so you just see something like "Cunt for Mayor" or "Vote Cunt" which is only somewhat amusing in a childish way. posted by bargle at 7:50 AM on October 11, 2004

I guess this means I shouldn't make an FPP out of Sherriff Mike Hunt. posted by TedW at 10:30 AM on October 11, 2004
And we wouldn't have the Bush/Cheney '04 signs if it weren't for the Bush/Cheney 2000 signs, so perhaps those were the worst. posted by TedW at 10:31 AM on October 11, 2004
A few years ago I was visiting my parents in rural Ohio. One day my dad took us out for a drive, just to kill some time. We can across this nieghborhood where, evidently, some church had passed out yard signs that looked exactly like campaign signs. House after house, yard after yard, there were signs that said "Jesus" in white on a blue background. I remember thinking 'who is this Jesus character and what office is he running for?' posted by elwoodwiles at 10:41 AM on October 11, 2004
