Which disgusting snack food conglomerates started the Center For Consumer Freedom out of their concern for the public well-being? posted by Mayor Curley at 8:42 AM on October 21, 2004
Well, isn't that just the acme of Pepsi Blue. Lowest common denominator corporate pimping smack on the front page. posted by bifter at 8:59 AM on October 21, 2004
I thought the exact same thing - front group. Disinfopedia has the scoop.
Not that PETA doesn't deserve a spanking, mind you. posted by O9scar at 9:02 AM on October 21, 2004

Except that PETA is an independent performance-art troupe, not a front for the vegetable and processed-soybean industry. posted by deanc at 9:14 AM on October 21, 2004
You can already tell this is going to turn into a PETA Good vs. PETA bad thread. Put me down for "bad" here as well as in the Metatalk thread. posted by bondcliff at 9:17 AM on October 21, 2004

dunno what PETA has to do with this. count me "good" ... oh, i see. the other ad. um.
i saw the soup nazi ad the last time this embarassing group came up. i was disappointed to have yet another of my cultural icons dragged through the poop, but i know actors can get desperate for work ...
damn nanny culture! we should be able to do whatever we want! so where's the Center for Consumer Freedom ad about my right to smoke dope? or grow it, sell it, or buy it! consumers need to be free! oh, i guess that doesn't "fit their agenda."
In the about page of them, they start out "Are we biased? You bet!" posted by jonah at 10:22 AM on October 21, 2004
Lisa: They can't seriously expect us to swallow that tripe.
Skinner: Now as a special treat courtesy of our friends at the Meat Council, please help yourself to this tripe. [Class cheers and runs to table loaded with tripe.]
Lisa: Stop it Stop IT! Don't you realize you've just been brainwashed by corporate propaganda?
Janie: Hmmph, apparently my crazy friend here hasn't heard of the food chain.
Uter: Yeah, Lisa's a grade A moron!

If I could have linked directly to the movie, I would have.
I just found the idea of the Soup Nazi berating overweight/obese people hilarious, especially since, to the government at least, I am "obese."
I could care less about what they think about PETA, that's for damn sure (though I do agree with their stance on "Nanny Culture" to an extent). posted by armage at 11:24 AM on October 21, 2004
