"No soup for you! Only salad!" The Soup Nazi stars in a Center for Consumer Freedom ad about overeating and the "calorie curmudgeons" trying to regulate it.

Which disgusting snack food conglomerates started the Center For Consumer Freedom out of their concern for the public well-being?

Well, isn't that just the acme of Pepsi Blue. Lowest common denominator corporate pimping smack on the front page.

I thought the exact same thing - front group. Disinfopedia has the scoop.

Not that PETA doesn't deserve a spanking, mind you.

Overeating is as American as apple pie!

Mmmmmmm... apple pie.

Except that PETA is an independent performance-art troupe, not a front for the vegetable and processed-soybean industry.

You can already tell this is going to turn into a PETA Good vs. PETA bad thread. Put me down for "bad" here as well as in the Metatalk thread.

"No soup or salad for any of you !", says TheocracyFishingNazi, "You discuss obscure Christian theologies of World Domination! NOW, or no soup or salad ever again!"

When I saw these ads (I think they ran during The Daily Show after the first debate), I thought they were parody.

I'm guessing (before doing my research...) that it's the hydrogenated oil lobby...

"...the growing cabal of calorie curmudgeons trying to forcibly slim you down" ( ! )

Can I be in this cabal of calorie curmudgeons ? I always wanted to be part of a cabal.

dunno what PETA has to do with this. count me "good" ... oh, i see. the other ad. um.

i saw the soup nazi ad the last time this embarassing group came up. i was disappointed to have yet another of my cultural icons dragged through the poop, but i know actors can get desperate for work ...

damn nanny culture! we should be able to do whatever we want! so where's the Center for Consumer Freedom ad about my right to smoke dope? or grow it, sell it, or buy it! consumers need to be free! oh, i guess that doesn't "fit their agenda."

Overeating is as American as apple pie!

amen, brother.

North Americans were consuming resources at a particularly fast rate, with an ecological footprint that was twice as big as that of Europeans and seven times that of the average Asian or African, WWF said.

"If we all reached the level of per capita footprint of the average North America, it is clearly an unsustainable situation. The planet clearly would not be able to sustain that level of consumption for very long," Loh said.

O.K. now that I've followed the link provided by O9scar...

CCF is one of the more active of several front groups created by Berman & Co., a public affairs firm owned by lobbyist Rick Berman.

Why is Rick Berman doing this? Isn't the Star Trek cash cow working out?

Lisa: They can't seriously expect us to swallow that tripe.

Skinner: Now as a special treat courtesy of our friends at the Meat Council, please help yourself to this tripe. [Class cheers and runs to table loaded with tripe.]

Lisa: Stop it Stop IT! Don't you realize you've just been brainwashed by corporate propaganda?

Janie: Hmmph, apparently my crazy friend here hasn't heard of the food chain.

Uter: Yeah, Lisa's a grade A moron!

Ralph: When I grow up, I'm going to go to Bovine University.

If I could have linked directly to the movie, I would have.

I just found the idea of the Soup Nazi berating overweight/obese people hilarious, especially since, to the government at least, I am "obese."

I could care less about what they think about PETA, that's for damn sure (though I do agree with their stance on "Nanny Culture" to an extent).
