No matter how you try to blame it on the president the actual responsibility for it really would be for the troops that were there. Did they search carefully enough? Didn't they search carefully enough?" Rudy Giuliani blames the troops for the current missing explosives scandal. (340K wmv file). Can we finally stop talking about this hack as a viable candidate for national office?

Former NY mayors never get elected President. Former police commissioners, on the other hand, ... those who had the misfortune to notice Giuliani's pettiness and small-mindedness and general hackitude during his mayor years aren't surprised by this. not to mention, Hillary Clinton would have kicked his ass four years ago. ill health at least spared him an embarrassment that would've ended his political career for good Giuliani looked amazingly good post-911, true. especially because Bush just looked so scared and out of his league

I'm interested to see how this bit plays out: A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS crew in Iraq shortly after the fall of Saddam Hussein was in the area where tons of explosives disappeared, and may have videotaped some of those weapons. (As an aside, local news breaking a story?)

He'll say whatever they want him to, but each time he says stupidity like this, he turns off more moderates--something i think they hope he'd attract. Ouch. I used to like Giuliani, even before 9-11, even when he was just your average asshole. I thought he was the kind of tough, take-no-prisoners mayor NY needed at the time, whether they liked it or not. But ever since his RNC speech ("I said, 'Thank God George Bush is our president.'") he's really shown himself to be the dipshit, ass-kissing jerk everyone told me he was. Oh well, live and learn.

I find it blood-boilingly, jaw-droppingly insane (yet predictable) that most mainstream media are treating this as another He Said / He Said story. On one side, even ignoring that local scoop above, we have: Iraqi leaders, Iraqi employees of the site, David Kay and many others saying the explosives were almost certainly there at the start of the invasion, and on the other, Bush administration flacks saying "well, we just don't know" or "the Russians did it" or whatever today's ludicrous spin is. So the two sides are even, and there's no way for journalists to evaluate the two claims for veracity. And to top it all off, even IF they were dispersed as we were starting to invade, that STILL makes the invasion the cause of the dispersal of these dangerous explosives. So even by Bush's own narrative, our launching of a war in Iraq has put us all at greater risk, and he has no idea what the actual facts of this crucial situation are! WTF?

The great thing about this: When Kerry first started harping about the missing explosives, Bush attacked Kerry by claiming that Kerry was criticizing the troops without knowing the facts! Now Rudy does exactly what Bush yelled at Kerry for. Not exactly on the same page, are they?

If the soldiers on the ground where to blaim, they would have to have the free will to decide to guard/secure/blow the explosives up. Does anyone have evidence that the troups *HAD* the free will to decide to secure the explosives and opted to NOT secure the explosives? Cuz, my understanding about the military is free will is not one of the things soldiers on the ground have alot of.

Well, euphorb, Kerry is milking it. It's a rare example of the press understanding facts, and being willing to talk about them, so he's going to hammer it home. There was enough explosives there to take out half a million airliners, do you feel safer now? And just try to give the administration credit for going in to stop weapons of mass destruction. seeing as how this was the material used to blow a hole in the side of the USS Cole in 2000, maybe they'd keep some kind of eye on it? I'm sure the NPR reporter was just wishing for a nice juicy sex scandal to milk themselves.

Well, euphorb, Kerry is milking it. i agree it seems that way, but is that b/c the press chooses to ignore everything else he says, or is it really a valid criticism? i honestly don't know. Well, if Bush hasn't been milking Kerry's votes on the $87 billion supplemental aid bill for Iraq, I don't know what milking is. Never mind that it makes no sense and holds no logical water whatsoever. So Kerry's going to hit home with an issue like this, which really just shows the egg on the admin.'s face in all of the post-war (lack of) planning. My poorly articulated point about giving the neo-cons credit for going in looking for weapons of mass destruction is kind of a "thank the gods they didn't find them" because, if they had, what would they have done, exactly? Why would the "Keep Out" signs placed by the U.S. military carry more weight than those of the I.A.E.A.? Also, I completely got sidetracked from saying that I think Giuliani's comments completely hamstring any real chances he might have of running for POTUS in 2008. Moronic. I don't think you can show a greater lack of comphrehension of their situation than asking aloud why they didn't commit insubordination.

I thought Rudy Giuliani was cool before he started getting really political and standing up for George W. Bush. Not to say I hate George Bush, but I know from many different points of view that i've read, seen and listened to that he screwed up really bad in the last 4 years. There is no other reason why I am not voting for him.
