pnevares: it took me several months, too. Try to say his middle initial "W" with a bit of a drawlish southern accent. It comes out sounding like "dubya".
I think this is one of those things that people who watch him on TV pick up, or something.
also because it distinguishes him from george bush the latter, he goes by 'george w. bush', which was often shortened to 'george w' and finally just 'dubya', which is not all that far from a polish word meaning 'shit'. :-) posted by quonsar at 11:23 AM on October 15, 2000

Though Victor Chernomyrdin called him "George Bush Junior" when responding to the claims made in the debate. (As did the BBC until the primaries, I seem to remember.) Which I'm sure he's tried to suppress for the entire campaign. posted by holgate at 5:03 PM on October 15, 2000
