(btw, can someone tell me why i keep hearing "dubya" in reference to Bush? did i miss a memo?)

pnevares: it took me several months, too. Try to say his middle initial "W" with a bit of a drawlish southern accent. It comes out sounding like "dubya".

I think this is one of those things that people who watch him on TV pick up, or something.

also because it distinguishes him from george bush the latter, he goes by 'george w. bush', which was often shortened to 'george w' and finally just 'dubya', which is not all that far from a polish word meaning 'shit'. :-)

Though Victor Chernomyrdin called him "George Bush Junior" when responding to the claims made in the debate. (As did the BBC until the primaries, I seem to remember.) Which I'm sure he's tried to suppress for the entire campaign.
