You know, as much as I have a very very deep respect for mustaches (and this is certainly a good cause), I am getting a little weary of the "ironic mustache" angle. Growing a mustache is serious business and should be acknowledged as such. I think further energy in mustache speculation/anthropology should be spent in defining the specific genres of already existing mustaches, for example the "Chicago Bear" or the "Carneceria." or the "Uncle Ernie," or the "Wax Daddy."

for my money, nothing says regal like the "Ambrose Burnside" as far as facial hair goes http://www.henry.k12.ga.us/pges/kid-pages/cw/burnside.htm oddly enough the page features both kids and a peach of a moustache.

At first glance, I wondered just how many kids in New York are capable of growing mustaches. (Then I actually clicked on the link.) I'd love to participate in something like that, but there never seem to be "creative leg hair" categories for women. I should sue or something.

All this talk of moustaches, and no gallery on the site? FOR SHAME! What do they take us for, fools? On a related bent, a good friend of mine did a documentary on the World Moustache and Beard Championships and just staring at those pictures again fills my heart with facial hair.

The repeated unironic use of the word "sweet" to describe a quality moustache seems ... not-quite-right, like the judges will be taste-testing them. So like, ew. Aside from that, it's a really cute idea.

The moustache is a strange creature in this day and age. Where in the realm of style does it fall? How many men do you know who are under 40, and who aren't police officers or firefighters who sport only a moustache? It seems to have been replaced by the goatee by the general public.
