There are 4 "stages" in the first game, which means you have a 1/16 chance of winning. That second game is pretty fiendish.

There are 4 "stages" in the first game, which means you have a 1/16 chance of winning. Since you have a 1-in-2 chance of choosing the right path in each of the four stages, I actually think you have a 1/(2x4) chance of winning, that is 1/8.

Actually, there is a commercial board game that involves absolutely NO skill: Chutes and Ladders. Winning is 100% based on luck (dice-rolling) - at least for those without telekenetic abilities. The game is good for (a) teaching young kids to count (as Hasbro's web page points out) and (b) something that adults and 4-to-5 year olds can play where no one has an advantage (as in, adults don't have to deliberately lose in order to keep things interesting). On the other hand, there is the "no matter what you do, you're not in control" aspect.

Other children's games of no skill are "War" and Candyland. I guess in Candyland, you can choose to take the shortcuts or not if you land on them. Why do children love these games? I can't feign interest in one of them for longer than a few minutes.
