Damn it. I lived in Berkeley for two years, and there wasn't a single riot, but as soon as I move to the East Coast...

So, uh, sports victory = excuse for looting? Where's the link to the similar antics following the Lakers win at the NBA finals? Or the UK football (U.S. soccer) matches?

I'm increasingly of the mind the post-apocalyptic images conjured up in the likes of Blade Runner an others are actually our own post-modernist wet dream reality... All of which is to say, in such a jaded world, we take this kind of stuff for granted.

Or should we?

There was no sports victory. It was just a riot for the sake of rioting. And that's the best kind of riot! (Although if the end of the World Series results in New York burning to the ground, I guess that's pretty good too. Stinking Yankees.)
