Mariko Takahashi's FITNESS VIDEO for being appraised as an "EX-FAT GIRL" A most peculiar entry from Panasonic's Olympic Games in Action summer promotion in Japan. From the artist: "This video expresses the joy of excercise. ...While I was trying to find something that both adults and children could enjoy, I saw a poodle with its 'muscle-like' hairstyle and I thought, how about a girl with muscles in the same places?" ...Possibly the most bizarre video I've seen all month. (38MB - QuickTime/Real/Windows Media Player req'd)

I always wondered why animals don't wear pants in cartoons. The answer has now been revealed.

She looks like a push-up toy; I was expecting to see her collapse to the floor and spring back up.

Is there a screen capture of this anywhere? I have dialup and I'm not keen on downloading 38mb, but I am insanely curious.

etoile: Here. (I'll keep that up for a while, at least.)

etoile's screenshot really is just as good as watching the video.

This is going to spawn a new wave of poodle based exercise videos.

Krunk. I agree, but would add a question mark at the end, no?

Almost but not quite as odd as the visual imagery is the direct-from-Japanese translation of the script. It's an extreme example of the general attitude rampant in the Japanese media that if you can pronounce your Rs and THs correctly then you can pretty much fool a Japanese audience into believing that the dialogue is perfectly natural, normal English.

*brain explodes*

I'm never exercising again. I don't want to be a dancing, leg-warmer wearing poodle. Especially not while the crazy poodle lady is saying stuff like "Get it up, squeeze, and down."

This must be one of those super-advanced Chiba surgical procedures that William Gibson talks about in his books, where they suck out all the fat from the knees, elbows and shoulders.

(Bixby23, notice the voice-over tracking doesn't quite match up as well.)

I just realized that the poodles are neither CG or extremely well trained poodles, but human(oid) actors in some really bizarre costumes. I was too horrified by Ms. Popeye limbs the first time through to even notice.

Now I'm going to have nightmares about humanoid poodle people with packages in their pouches, and Ms. Popeye.

I didn't think the English was odd, but visually that was just a...well, I have no words for it. What weirded me out wasn't the poodle lady so much as the people in poodle suits around her.

This video is off the chain.

By which I mean it actually broke the chains binding it to its bed in the insane asylum and has escaped, gibbering, into the world.

That's why I never go to Aerobics, even if it looked more like Work Out for the Elderly.

I should get some training tips from her though. By the look of her popeye muscles, she knows how to isolate the muscles.
