Both Ashcroft and Bacon feel that their ministry is important in demonstrating that "government and God"--Christianity and politics--are compatible. ugh. even back then.

I still can't believe the Whitehouse are using that word "crusade" again. They already were forced to apologise for Bush's use of it previously. It's not hard to see why either. The Crusades were the most disgusting use of terrorism the world has ever seen. Just as one example, during the siege of Antioch, they would take Muslim women and children from their houses while they slept at night, slice them up and then cart the remains around the streets in an insane display of triumph in the name of God.

Is it just me, fandango_matt, or does that pic say "To Ray, Best Wishes"? I'm thinking this Romano thing goes deeper than you think. Deeper, perhaps, than you can possibly imagine. Do you ever get that feeling, that creeping hint of sheer terror, like the glimpse of a malignant shadow out of the corner of your eye? While sitting around the dinner table at a large family gathering at my wife's cousin's house (a church-going, hymn-singing Xtian of the first stripe), the cousin professed shock at my dislike of Ashcroft. I replied that I thought "Ashcroft is as crazy as a shithouse rat". I haven't been invited back.
