What do Pixar artists do on their day off? Ronnie Delcarmen is a story artist, story supervisor, character designer and an illustrator who works for the Incredible Company. His sketchy art style and fluid lines renders a beauty of itself. He has a weblog that discusses his groovey comic book, Paper Biscuit as well as give updates to his life as an artist.

Loathed The Incredibles. Love the journal. Really? I thought, visually, that was one of the best Pixar films yet (3d cartoon people have to be a bitch to animate/model. It's much easier to animate/model a space toy or a cowboy toy). I saw the Polar Express the other day...it's the first time, in a long time that I said "hey, the story was great but the visuals were horrific!"

I really enjoyed The Incredibles. Another person told me that he thought it was the worst movie he'd ever seen... but then again, he also voted for W. I really can't relate to his point of view.

These are wonderful sketches. I can really see his influence in the Pixar films, especially in the credits sequences of Monsters Inc. Great post.

Hey, I saw his work at last year's APE. Nice that he got a gig at Pixar to pay the bills -- he has fantastic illustrative skills.

I really like the combination of sketchiness, cartoon style, and graphic simplicity, which would fail him if his grasp of color and figurative expression weren't so spot-on. Thanks, I need some inspiration these days.

I can't get Delcarmen's gallery to load. Did he work on Helen Parr / Elastigirl? Because man, I have got to tell you, that particular character is what for want of a better term can only be described as hot. And I don't even read these... whaddayacallem... superhero comics, Faint of Butt. Which, I fell compelled to add, Elastigirl is not.

I see a lot of Mirage in these sketches, in addition to Helen Parr. He's also great with expressions.

I don't read superhero comics, I'm sure I missed a lot references in the movie because of that. Helen Parr...yeah, they have a way of mixing cute with sexy. Of course, I think Holly Hunter has always been easy on the eyes.
