The 20 X 20 Expeditionis an experiment in photo format showing you what's great about ordering a 20 patty cheeseburger (with 20 pieces of cheese) at The In and Out Burger. Not exaclty pleasant (so you were warned). Bon appetit!

I went to school in LA last year (before transferring to a school in NYC), and one of the few things I really miss is In-and-Out Burger. For a very reasonable price (about $3), you get a really good hamburger and freshly cut french fries (you can see them slicing the potatoes as you order). I have also heard that they are very good to their employees. On one hand, I wish they would expand outside of the Southwest, but on the other hand, it makes it more special that you can only get it in certain parts of the country. Reminds me of what a treat it was to eat at Pizzeria Uno in Chicago before they franchised it all over the US.

America may be a country full of obese people, but at least some of them are entertainingly obese.

Also, there is a bible verse printed on the obverse of every In n Out drink cup, fry boat, and burger wrapper.

E_B_A, "burger" was precisely the same search term i used, but you had to use the 'search from day one' option, since this was first posted on Metafilter in 2003.

banishedimmortal: Are you still in NYC? Because you should really try Blue 9 Burgers, on Third Ave, between 12th and 3th. Apparently, they do a pretty good burger that is somewhat similar to In-And-Out.

E_B_A, if it's any consolation, you at least got the quantity of food right. The first poster referred to it as a 16-patty burger (probably because the receipt lists 16 extra patties and cheese slices -- but that's in addition to the 4x4 a few items down).

I'm not sure I could eat 20 slices of cheese, let alone having to eat a hamburger with each slice.

And, in some sick twist of fate, the song on the radio right now has sucking/slurping sounds in it.

I'd have to say the handful of cheese is my favorite.
At least he skipped the tomato; vegetables are gross.
